Our Community Outreach inspired by Isaiah 58, run with the help of volunteers
How did it come to be?
Rhonda Kroeker once ran a give-away ministry in Yamhill, Oregon. She quit when the building she was using became unavailable.
When she started attending Carlton Assembly of God, she found that several other church members had similar ideas. One had offered free clothing out of her garage.
Early this year, 2009, the wife of Pastor Robert Marquis, arranged a free garage “sale” in front of the church annex. Kroeker planned to suggest that the leftovers be moved to the empty rooms at the back of our small annex however the pastor brought up the idea before she did. “What a blessing that we were thinking the same thing,” she said.
As soon as the Blessing Room opened, she said, the space was filled with donated items ready to be picked up by people in need. Although specific items may be in short supply sometimes — there’s a perpetual need for more children’s clothes, for instance — in general, donations keep pace with requests.
“Our God is a multiplier,” Kroeker said. “He fills needs. God has a way of keeping his table full.”
